Emberá Drua

Feliz comienzo de semana

Hoy os hablo de una visita muy especial a la comunidad indígena de los Emberá, donde disfrutamos de una jornada de historia, cultura y tradiciones en el asentamiento Emberá Drua. Era la primera vez que me aproximaba a conocer una de las cinco poblaciones indígenas panameñas y resultó ser una experiencia enriquecedora y preciosa, especialmente por el exuberante paraje que envuelve su comunidad.

Originarios de la provincia de Darién, esta comunidad Emberá Drua tiene como fundador a Don Emiliano Taisano. Emigró de Darién entre la década de los 40 y los 50 por la falta de oportunidades para vender su producción agrícola y por la falta de escuelas y hospitales.

Antes de llegar al Chagres, se ubicó junto a su familia en Río Bayano, pero el río fue represado y tuvieron que salir de ese lugar. Llegaron así a la provincia de Panamá al Río Juan Díaz, pero la ubicación no le convenció. Y ya pensando regresar a Darién, se encontró con otro indígena que le habló de las posibilidades de vivir en la zona del Río Chagres. Y de esta forma llegaron las dos familias y se instalaron en el emplazamiento actual allá por la década de los 70.

En la actualidad son 24 familias y 114 habitantes, dedicados principalmente a la agricultura, pesca y artesanía. Cuentan con una escuela pública y su poblado, junto al de otros grupos indígenas, fue decretado por ley el 2 de Octubre de 1984 reserva emberá guandá.

Happy begin of the week, 

Today I talk you about a very special visit to the native region of the Emberá, where we enjoyed a history, traditions and culture day in the Embera Drua settlement. It was the first time I moved to meet one of the five Panamanian native populations and it was an enriching and nice experience, especially because of the lush spot which involves its community. 

Native from the province of Darien, this Embera Drua community has as founder Mr. Emiliano Taisano. He emigrated from Darien between the 40s and 50s due to the lack of opportunities to sell its agricultural production and to the lackness of schools and hospitals.

Before arriving to the Chagres, he was located with his family in Bayano River, but it was dammed and they had to move. They arrive like that to the province of Panama to Juan Diaz River, but the location didn't convince them. And thinking already return to Darien, he met another native who talked him about the possibilities about living near the Chagres. And in that way they arrive with their families and located in the current location near the 70s. 

Nowadays they are 24 families and 114 people living there, dedicated to the agriculture, fishing and handicrafts. They have their own school and the settlement, with other native groups' settlements, was ordered embera guanda reserve on 2nd October in 1984.
